Christian leaders in Nigeria have renewed calls for unity and stronger interfaith relations between Christians and Muslims as the country marked the Eid el-Maulud celebration last week Friday.
In a goodwill message monitored by GospelRaw and delivered on behalf of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh congratulated Muslims nationwide, stressing that the occasion should inspire renewed hope for peace, stability, and prosperity.
Okoh emphasized that virtues such as humility, compassion, justice, and devotion to God transcend religious boundaries and remain essential for building a just and harmonious society.
He also urged Nigeria’s political leaders to prioritize justice, ease the economic hardships faced by citizens, and govern with integrity and fairness in order to foster national cohesion.
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, herself a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, extended similar goodwill to the Muslim community.
She encouraged Nigerians to use the period of Eid el-Maulud as a time for reflection, forgiveness, and the strengthening of unity across faith lines.
Tinubu further urged Muslims to show love and kindness towards non-Muslims as a way of deepening interreligious harmony.
Also weighing in, Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians of all faiths to dedicate prayers to peace, security, and stability in the country.
He urged citizens to support government initiatives aimed at promoting national unity, harmony, and sustainable development.
The collective calls underscore growing recognition among faith and political leaders that interreligious cooperation remains central to Nigeria’s quest for peace and progress.
