The Lagos State Police Command has cleared Pastor Paul Adefarasin, the Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, after an investigation into a viral video showed him holding what appeared to be a weapon.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the police confirmed that Pastor Adefarasin had voluntarily reported to their headquarters in Ikeja for questioning following the incident.
The police explained that after a detailed investigation, including questioning Pastor Adefarasin and obtaining his statement, it was determined that the object seen in the video was a stun gun, not a firearm.
The statement added that there were no grounds for further action. “The case is hereby closed,” the police confirmed, assuring the public of their commitment to transparency and law enforcement.
This development comes in contrast to earlier remarks in June by the State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh. At the time, Jimoh had indicated that pointing a stun gun at someone could be considered a criminal act under Nigerian law, as stun guns are classified as prohibited riot control devices. He had also warned that such actions could be viewed as an offense meant to cause fear.
The video, which began circulating in June, depicted Pastor Adefarasin inside a Range Rover, holding the device during a confrontation with another individual. The pastor had previously denied claims that he was holding a firearm, explaining that it was a non-lethal object.
