Gospel artist Rebecca Olamide Falodun has called on her fellow musicians to remain rooted in spiritual inspiration, cautioning against the rising trend of blending gospel with hip-hop influences.
In an interview with Friday Extravaganza, Rebecca expressed concern over the direction of contemporary gospel music, noting that some songs now sound more like entertainment than ministry. She emphasized that gospel music should carry a clear message of hope and faith, with the ultimate goal of drawing people closer to God.
According to her, mixing gospel with secular sounds—especially hip-hop—often dilutes the core message. “Some of these songs no longer feel like they are led by the Spirit,” she said, adding that many lyrics reflect popular culture rather than biblical truth or divine inspiration.
While acknowledging that some artists adopt modern styles to attract wider audiences, Rebecca warned that this approach risks reducing the spiritual value of their music. “When the focus shifts to gaining attention instead of offering encouragement and growth, the purpose of gospel music is lost,” she explained.
She encouraged gospel musicians to reflect on their calling, seek divine guidance through prayer, and prioritize content that uplifts and edifies over chasing trends. “True gospel music comes from a place of connection with God. It’s not about staying relevant; it’s about staying faithful,” she concluded.
