According to his family, a tracking device later led investigators to Lagos, where Pastor Uchenna, one of the suspects, was arrested at a panel beating shop.
He initially claimed he was gifted the vehicle but later confessed to being present at the crime scene.
In a controversial decision, Justice Ewa granted bail to Pastor Uchenna on alleged health grounds. Days later, a video surfaced online showing him preaching at his church in Lagos, raising public concern about the integrity of the bail ruling.
The victim’s brother expressed frustration over the prolonged legal delays. “It has been over two years now. We have not been able to get justice on this case. We are calling on the Governor of Cross River State, the Attorney General and the Chief Judge to intervene,” he said.
“These men are parading themselves as pastors but they are killers. We need justice for Princewill. Today it might be Princewill, tomorrow it could be anybody.”
The viral video and public outcry prompted Governor Bassey Otu to instruct the Attorney General to review the case.
The Attorney General’s inquiry revealed that the trial stalled after the presiding judge, Justice Ewa, was reassigned to an election petition tribunal. The delay was compounded by an internal lapse in transferring the case file.
To restore public confidence, the Attorney General directed the Director of Public Prosecutions to immediately take over the case and requested police assistance in arresting three additional suspects still at large.
A government source confirmed that the Ministry of Justice intends to fast-track the matter.
“The Attorney General has already acted to get this case back on track. There will be no compromise on justice,” the source said.
