In response to the alarming increase in violence and insecurity spreading across Nigeria, respected cleric and the senior pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr. Paul Eneche has delivered a strong message of community self-reliance.
During a recent prayer session focused on national safety, he expressed agreement with those urging local populations to defend their own territories in the face of growing threats.
In recent months, many Nigerian communities especially have suffered brutal attacks from terrorist organizations and bandits, particularly in the north and middle belt regions.
These assaults have not only claimed countless lives but also resulted in entire communities being burned to the ground, leaving thousands displaced and traumatized.
Despite these threats, the government’s response has been widely criticized as inadequate, hence the numerous calls for individuals to rise up and defend their communities.
Dr. Paul voiced his clear support for the call to action. “We agree with that position,” he said.
“You do not have to wait for government to supply you water if you do not have water, you dig your borehole. You do not have to wait for government to supply you electricity. If you do not have, you buy a generator. And if government cannot supply you security, what do you do?”
Dr. Paul emphasized that waiting for government action is not always practical, especially when lives are at risk. He stressed that, just as people solve other basic needs independently, they should also take initiative when it comes to protecting themselves.
He also directed a message to those with military backgrounds living in these communities, urging them to take action.
“It’s time for people to wake and rise, defend your communities and stand. If you’re a serviceman, ex serviceman in your community, you’re there for such a time as this. What are all of you waiting for? If a matter is not confronted, it won’t be solved,” he added.
