Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lubo, the Plateau State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has passed away. He died in the early hours of Sunday, June 15, 2025, at a hospital in Jos where he was receiving treatment. His passing followed a brief illness that came after he was involved in an accident the previous week.
Fr. Lubo was serving as the Parish Priest of St. William’s Parish, Zawan, and also held the position of Dean of the Zawan Deanery at the time of his death. News of his passing has left the Christian community in deep mourning, with tributes pouring in from religious leaders and members of the public who knew him for his dedication to peace and unity.
The Catholic Archdiocese of Jos confirmed his death through an official statement released by the Archdiocesan Chancellor, Daniel Gyang. Titled Obituary Announcement, the message read, “On a sad note but with total submission to the will of God, we hereby announce the passing unto eternal glory of Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Polycarp Lubo, who passed on to eternal glory in the wee hours of the morning of Sunday 15th June, 2025.”
The Archbishop extended his condolences to Fr. Lubo’s immediate family, the CAN leadership in Plateau State, priests across the Archdiocese of Jos, his parishioners at St. William’s Zawan, and all religious and lay members of the Church. The statement concluded with the solemn prayer, “May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”
Fr. Lubo was widely respected for his commitment to harmony among communities and his role as a spiritual leader. His absence will be felt not only within the Church but across Plateau State where he worked tirelessly to promote peaceful coexistence.
Just seven months ago, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang celebrated Fr. Lubo’s birthday in a public message that praised the priest’s contributions to building a more united and peaceful society. In the message issued through his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor commended Lubo’s influence both within and beyond the state.
