Founder and General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, (alias Abbas Ajakaiye), has been taken into custody by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency following an investigation into drug-related activities.
According to a statement by the NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, Olasele was apprehended on Sunday 3 August 2025 shortly after church service at his ministry’s location in Okun Ajah along Ogombo Road in the Lekki area of Lagos. Officers had reportedly kept watch throughout the day and moved in as soon as the service ended.
The arrest followed a period during which Olasele was said to have evaded two earlier attempts to apprehend him. He had reportedly fled to Ghana after authorities linked him to two separate recoveries of a cannabis variant known as Ghana Loud.
The first batch of the substance, weighing 200 kilogrammes, was recovered on 4 June 2025 at Okun Ajah beach. A second seizure involving 700 kilogrammes was made from a delivery van on 6 July 2025.
In a written statement, Olasele acknowledged transporting the banned substances from Ghana to Nigeria via the waterways. He also confirmed he had left the country to avoid capture after escaping arrest on two earlier occasions.
