A recent decision by the Lagos High Court has favored Deeper Life Bible Church in a land dispute involving its property at 36 Aina Street in the Lawanson area of Surulere.
The court instructed the Surulere Local Government to leave the land, reinforcing the church’s claim to the location.
This legal step follows the demolition of the church building by the Lagos State Building Control Agency on May 27, 2024. The demolition took place even though a court case about the property was still in progress at the time.
The church has since requested compensation for the building that was taken down. In addition, they are asking that their members be allowed to use the property peacefully while the legal matter is still being resolved.
According to the pastor, Israel Adeagbo, the church has been present at the site since 2007, serving both its congregation and the surrounding community. He mentioned that in early 2024, the local authorities informed the church of plans to remove the building, despite the fact that the issue was already before the court.
The church emphasized that it would continue to carry out its religious and community activities within the law and has asked for its members to be protected while doing so.
