General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E. A. Adeboye, has said that divine protection is a reality for those who dwell under God’s covering.
Speaking during the monthly thanksgiving service held on Sunday, June 1 at the RCCG headquarters in Lagos, Pastor Adeboye emphasized that the church has continued to experience unusual favour and supernatural preservation. His message, titled “The Shadow of the Almighty,” focused on the power and presence of God as a shield for His people.
The General Overseer shared several examples of divine intervention, including one involving an RCCG house fellowship centre in a foreign country that remained untouched during a flood, while surrounding buildings were submerged.
He also recounted a more recent incident involving a fire outbreak near Otedola Bridge in Lagos. According to him, the flames consumed buildings on either side of an RCCG parish, but left the church untouched.
While some media reports suggested that the church had also been affected, Pastor Adeboye maintained that video footage and visual evidence displayed during the service confirmed the church remained intact.
Highlighting that God’s protection transcends logic, he urged the congregation to remain under His shadow, quoting multiple Bible passages to drive home the point. Pastor Adeboye explained that God’s shadow is not a metaphorical idea but a spiritual reality available to those who walk in closeness with Him.
In a special address to members of the armed forces and paramilitary present at the service which was dedicated in their honour, he encouraged them to rely not only on their training and weapons but on the spiritual shelter found in God. He reminded them that true security is found not in human ability but in divine assurance.
Adeboye stressed that the RCCG’s survival through various dangers over the years is not a product of human strategy but the result of divine grace. He reminded the congregation that the Church has a calling to live under God’s covering, and that this calling comes with both privilege and responsibility.
He also clarified that while it may seem the church enjoys special protection, it is not about the name or the banner. Rather, anyone who genuinely seeks God and walks faithfully with Him can enjoy the same divine shelter.
