Nigerian gospel artist Akinade Ibuoye, popularly known as Gaise Baba, has stirred discussions after making a bold statement regarding alcohol consumption, declaring it is not a sin.
Gaise Baba shared his perspective during a conversation on the Blackfame Podcast, where he explored his views on faith, the Christian journey, and the concept of heaven.
According to Gaise Baba, drinking alcohol is not inherently sinful.
He explained that while it may not be a sin, alcohol can become a burden that might slow down a believer’s spiritual growth.
He referred to it as a “weight” that can hinder one’s ability to run the race of faith effectively.
In his own words, “I say alcohol is not a sin. Alcohol is a weight. It’s not a sin. It’s what can weigh you down. The Bible says, seeing now that there’s a cloud of witnesses cheering us on, it gives you the metaphor of a race. Let us lay aside every sin and weight that weighs us down on this journey, on this race. You cannot run effectively carrying weight. So if it doesn’t carry you to hell, it may not be a sin.”
In an earlier interview with Chude Jideonwo, the “No Turning Back” singer opened up about the challenges he faced in his younger years and how he found purpose through grace.
Gaise Baba revealed that he married his wife as a virgin, though not without facing significant struggles along the way. He recounted how, at just 15 years old, he was exposed to explicit content, which led to an addiction to pornography.
Despite vowing to remain sexually pure until marriage, he struggled with maintaining his commitment.
He said, “I just scribble something. I sign it, go to meet the pastor. I’m like, my covenant of purity. In fact, it was shortly after that I got addicted I knew that under the right temperature and pressure, any man can fall.”
Gaise Baba described how he felt as though his life had crumbled, but it was during a period of deep personal loss that he experienced a breakthrough.
He revealed that fame came to him only two weeks after the death of his mother. “This season everybody’s talking about kicked off like two weeks after my mom passed. Fame came at a point that I was no longer looking for it,” he shared.
His turning point came with the release of his song “No Turning Back,” featuring worship minister Lawrence Oyor.
The song quickly gained popularity in gospel music circles, resonating deeply with listeners and becoming an anthem of healing for many.
