The General Overseer of Word Assembly Church, Evangelist Isaac Omolehin, has publicly apologized to several prominent Nigerian churches following backlash over a viral sermon in which he made disparaging remarks about their spiritual legacy.
In the sermon that sparked outrage online, Omolehin said, “I pity those who attend churches like Winners, COZA and Christ Embassy… when the founders are gone, the rubbish legacy they laid is what they will be doing.”
The statement quickly drew criticism across the Christian community, with many viewing it as divisive and disrespectful to established ministries.
In response as captured by GospelRaw, Omolehin issued an apology, citing the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 5:23–24 as the foundation for his repentance.
“Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar and there remembrance that thy brother hath wrought against thee leave there thy gift before the altar and go thy way. First be reconciled to thy brother and then come and offer thy gift.
“Now the reason he asked you to leave it there is because of the fact that he knows and wants and desires that you will come back to it. He didn’t ask you to carry it away. He said leave it there,” he explained.
Reflecting on his past remarks, the cleric admitted to the pain his words had caused even to close friends and fellow ministers.
“I now look back at some of the things I have said and the kind of hurtings that has been made. It brought pain to a lot of my, even my own friends. And the hurtings are so deep and they are also very painful even to me,” he said.
He went on to apologize specifically to the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), which he recalled had shown him support when his own church was attacked.
“When our church was burnt CAC sent a delegation to come and commiserate with us and give us money. That’s not the kind of church you want to hurt,” he said.
Regarding Living Faith Church, also known as Winner’s Chapel, he said he had seen a video of his earlier comments and expressed regret.
“I also saw a video that was sent to me about what I said about Winner’s Chapel that I sympathize with. So I ask for forgiveness from them all. Lord I pray for forgiveness,” he prayed.
In closing, Evangelist Omolehin offered intercessory prayers for the churches he had mentioned including COZA, Christ Embassy and Winner’s Chapel.
“Lord heal their wounds. I pray for COZA. I pray for Christ Embassy. I pray for Winner’s Chapel.
“Oh Lord heal our wounds and bring us into fellowship again that the gospel be not hindered. I pray that the work of God will advance,” he said.
