“I’m using this opportunity to call upon all Anglicans to return to the Anglican Church,” Omolehin stated. “Many have been stolen away in the name of miracles and signs and wonders. I am here to celebrate the Anglican Church for keeping the tradition that was handed down to us by our fathers.”
The Evangelist reflected on the challenges faced by the Anglican Church over the past 40 to 50 years, citing the rise of Pentecostalism and the shift in Nigerian Christianity.
He expressed concern that these changes have led many former members to leave the Anglican Church in search of the spiritual experiences offered by Pentecostal movements, such as prophecy and speaking in tongues.
“When the Pentecostals came with their wave of miracles, they breached our boundaries and took many of our members,” Omolehin noted. “But we must celebrate the Anglican Church for staying true to its heritage.”
Omolehin’s message also resonated with those who have deep roots in Anglicanism, urging all those born and raised within the faith to return.
He pointed to the resilience of the Anglican Communion, particularly in Nigeria, as a beacon for the faithful.
“If not for the fact that I am retiring next year, I would have applied to the primate council,” Omolehin said, reflecting on the steps he would have taken to further the call for a revival in the Anglican Church.
He concluded his message with a prayer for the revival of the Anglican faith, stating, “The glory of the latter house will surpass the former. Anglican is moving from glory to glory, and we will see our Church grow stronger with each passing day.”
