Denzel Washington, the renowned iconic actor known for his long and distinguished career, has a different perspective on public opinion and cancel culture compared to many in the entertainment industry.
When asked about the fear of being “canceled,” Washington seemed unfazed, responding with a question of his own: “What does that mean?”
After being told that it refers to losing public support, he calmly replied, “Who cares? What made public support so important to begin with?”
The actor went on to explain his stance on leadership and following others, stating, “You can’t lead and follow at the same time, and you can’t follow and lead at the same time.”
As learnt by GospelRaw, Washington emphasized that his actions are guided by his faith rather than public opinion.
“I follow the heavenly Spirit. I follow God. I don’t follow man,” he said. “I have hope in man, but look around; it ain’t working out so well.”
Washington also offered insight into his personal beliefs regarding cancel culture, stating, “You can’t be canceled if you haven’t signed up. Don’t sign up.”
This reflects his commitment to staying true to his values, regardless of outside pressure.
In recent years, the actor has also been open about his spiritual journey. Last year, Washington revealed that he had been baptized and even received his minister’s license.
“Anything and everything I can do, I will do for this church, for the Almighty,” he said. “I just want to be in that number when the saints go marching in. Amen.”
