During a recent message to his congregation, Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, shared a personal promise he made long before his ministry gained the recognition it has today.
He spoke about a commitment he made early in life, long before even opening his first bank account.
He recalled saying to God, “Jesus, if you ever bless me, I want to be part of building new churches.” This early vow, he explained, was a reflection of his desire to serve through the construction of places of worship. He added, “Before I had the first bank account, I said, ‘Jesus, if you ever bless me, I want to be part of building new churches.’”
Addressing the congregation, he acknowledged their awareness of his longstanding commitment. “How many have heard that before? You have always heard everything,” he said, suggesting that this part of his journey is not new to those who have followed his ministry over the years.
Bishop Oyedepo also shared the goal tied to that early vow. He said he told Jesus he did not want to leave this life without having completed the building of one thousand churches. “I told Jesus, I don’t want to come to heaven without a thousand churches built in your name,” he stated.
Encouraging his mambers to evaluate their own willingness to contribute meaningfully to the work of God, Bishop Oyedepo pointed out that many people have the means to support but choose not to.
“Some may even have buses that are doing nothing on Sunday, but they won’t bring them out. Because, ‘ah, [fuel is] N2,000 per half litre.’ If it’s in your heart, then let it reflect in what you do” he said.
