Pastor David Oyedepo Jnr has cautioned against the consequences of wastefulness, stating that it will always lead to poverty, no matter how much one earns.
He made it clear that being wasteful is a direct path to poverty, no matter how much a person earns. According to him, abundance means little if there is no discipline in handling what comes in.
Pastor David explained that waste is a silent thief that drains wealth. He said, “Please hear this, waste will always lead to poverty. I say this all the time, no matter how much rain falls a basket will never be full. In the same vein, no matter how much resources come, a waster will never be rich. Wealth that is wasted will naturally dissipate.”
He shared a story to help drive the point home. In his words:
“Years ago, a family came to see me and they began to talk about the desperation of their situation. Financially, things were so hard everything was on the rocks. Debt everywhere, house was about to be taken and so forth. I began to wonder, I asked them: ‘Are you working? Because the first thing, you need to make sure you are labouring.’ ‘Are you working?’ They said: ‘Oh! No! Pastor, that’s not the problem.’ I said: ‘What’s the problem?’ And the wife told me: ‘My husband? This is what he is earning. Me, this is what I’m earning.’ The amount of money the two of them were earning was so ridiculous.
So much money was entering but waste was taking it away. As a result of that, they were entering into penury in spite of supply.”
He explained that God’s responsibility is to release blessings. It is up to individuals to manage what they receive. He said, “God’s own is to open up Heaven and pour out a blessing but if the man who is collecting the blessing is a basket, he will never be full. That’s the reality!”
He reminded the congregation of the promise in Scripture: “If you pay your tithe, I will open the Heaven, I’ll pour out a blessing that you will have no room again to receive it.” But he added a powerful warning. If a person is like a basket full of holes, no matter how much rain falls, it will never stay. The blessings will keep leaking out.
Pastor David emphasized that it is not enough to simply receive from God. The way one handles those blessings determines whether they last. If a person keeps wasting, they will never experience true financial growth. In his words, “There is no amount that enters a person’s hand if he’s a waster he can never rise.”
