In a sermon titled “Provoking Uncommon Honour,” the Presiding Pastor of Salvation Ministries, David Ibiyeomie, stirred widespread reactions after revealing what he believes is the secret behind his rapid rise in ministry: honouring spiritual authority.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!“I was born again in 1995, went to Bible school in 1996, then began the revelation of prosperity in 97. In the Bible school, I was the least in terms of new birth. I was born again on July 16th, 1995. Everybody in my class was already a minister; half of them were ministers.
“How come I’m the fastest? It will shock you. Nobody in my class, with all humility before God, is near even my toe.”
According to him, the key lies in how much reverence he showed to his spiritual father, Bishop David Oyedepo.
“This is the secret. I honor him more than all of them. So when he wants to pray for me, he doesn’t pray from here, he prays from here. ‘Kneel down my son. Be blessed! Rise above them.’ I say a
Amen. This thing has secrets. Don’t kill yourself. Grace.”
He referenced an encounter between Bishop David Oyedepo and the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa, where Oyedepo reportedly declined to collect a gift offered by the Archbishop.
“Oyedepo said, sir, I won’t take. He said, everybody comes here to collect. You say you won’t collect? He said, kneel down. Everybody comes to collect from Archbishop. But Oyedepo said, no, I would rather give than take. He said, kneel down. He said, before you leave, there’s a surprise there. He said, from that day, heaven was opened.”
Ibiyeomie made a comparison involving the children of Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
“Check Adeboye’s children. Nobody is half of Oyedepo,”
Ibiyeomie emphasised that honouring spiritual fathers can open doors of divine grace and increase, declaring, “Prophets make you enjoy profit.”
In a now-viral video, there are several reactions from the Public and social media users.
The message has sparked a debate across social media platforms.
One user wrote: “It’s based on election and calling, simple. Nobody is an expert when it comes to ministry; it’s God who appoints people.”
Another commented: “Honour truly opens doors, but growth is by grace, not comparison. Everyone’s journey unfolds differently — same class, different assignment.”
One asked, “Where are your toes, Oga? Na Jesus toes all of us dey fight to reach, not man.”
A more scathing remark read: “Soon, God will phase out these pastors that unleashed prosperity and pastor worship on the church. Preach Christ, not your mentor.”
Others agreed with the emphasis on giving. “Absolutely true, I will never take money from my superior in ministries; rather, I give to them,” someone affirmed.
But some questioned the metrics of spiritual success: “What yardstick is he using to measure? These men and their thought pattern. May the Lord help us all to truly see what the Lord looks for, and not what we measure as success. Amen.”
