Dr. Paul Enenche, founder of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, recently shared a personal story about how faith, not physical attraction, guided his decision to marry his wife, Dr. Becky Enenche.
He offered the congregation a reminder that spiritual conviction should outweigh physical appearance when making life-changing decisions like marriage.
Speaking candidly during the service, Pastor Enenche explained that his decision to marry Dr Becky was guided by divine direction, not outward appearance. At the time, his wife was a medical student who paid little attention to fashion.
“If sight was leading me, I wouldn’t marry my wife. I told my children the other day and they were all laughing. And she told them herself. Why? Because at that time, she never cared for anything.
“She just was anyhow. Medical students didn’t care for anything. The hair was plaited mat permanently. She wore any dress available: shapeless.”
Pastor Enenche contrasted his wife’s simplicity with other women he encountered during that period, many of whom were not only fashionable but also spiritual. These women, he noted, had a noticeable presence and appeal, but God had pointed his heart in a different direction. Despite the allure of more outwardly glamorous options, he obeyed the inner prompting to choose someone whose strength wasn’t immediately visible to the eye.
Addressing his congregation, Dr Enenche cautioned against making judgments based solely on appearances. “Not everything that looks good in the moment has a future,” he warned, encouraging believers to prioritize divine guidance over superficial appeal.
