The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has delivered a deeply emotional and personal message about the devastating impact of sorrow, drawing from his own experience with the loss of his son.
In a sermon, Pastor Adeboye acknowledged the profound pain that accompanies deep sorrow, warning that it can be fatal without divine intervention.
“Sorrow can kill. If you have really, really had an encounter with sorrow, it can kill you. If God does not intervene, and I know what I’m talking about,” he said.
Speaking candidly, the respected cleric noted that pastors are often quick to offer words of comfort when members of their congregation suffer a loss, but the reality becomes starkly different when tragedy strikes the clergy themselves.
“I’ve said it before, when somebody in the congregation loses somebody, we pastors, we know what to say. Don’t worry, God will comfort you. Thank God, the fellow is a child of God. You will soon meet again on the day of resurrection. Pastors, God have mercy on us. We know what to say.”
He continued,
“Let’s wait, and it won’t happen to you. Wait, if it ever happens to the pastor. It takes God, it takes divine intervention to see you through, and then through it. So I know what I’m talking about.”
Recalling the pain of losing his son, Pastor Adeboye revealed the many questions that troubled his heart in the wake of the tragedy.
“When I lost my son, there are so many questions. Number one, God, why take this boy? Why not take me? I’ve done my own bit. This fellow is just about to. Number one, you didn’t even tell me. At least give me a hint. I’m your son, Daddy. You talk to me, I’m not a prophet, but you talk to me once in a while. How come this one? And then, so many questions.”
The revered spiritual leader also expressed skepticism toward the sympathy of others, highlighting the disconnect between spoken condolences and lived grief.
“Oh, there are the people who come and say, well, daddy, please take her. We’re sorry this happened. How much of it do they know? It is the one who is burnt by fire, who knows how painful.”
Despite the depth of his pain, Pastor Adeboye testified to the healing power of divine comfort, sharing that a short message from a young girl became the turning point for him.
“It took divine intervention. A note from one young girl. Daddy, let God carry you. That’s what solved the problem.”
He then offered a passionate and prophetic declaration over his listeners:
“I decree in the name that’s above every other name, you will never know sorrow. In the name of the one who controls heaven and earth. In the name of the one in whose presence there is fullness of joy. You will never weep again. You will never know sorrow. Those of you who have known sorrow before, you will never know sorrow again.”
