It is a collective failure, an ethical loophole, a historical fault,” he declared in his speech, which was delivered primarily in Spanish.
The Pope as monitored by GospelRaw also condemned the use of food as a weapon in armed conflicts, criticizing the impact of war on civilian populations, though he refrained from naming specific parties. “The scenarios of the current conflicts have made the use of food as a weapon of war resurface,” he said.
Pope Leo XIV called for a transformation in global political attitudes, advocating for an end to polarizations and a renewed commitment to multilateralism. “Let me underline the importance of multilateralism in the face of harmful temptations that tend to arise as autocratic in a multipolar and increasingly interconnected world,” he said. “It is therefore more necessary than ever to rethink audaciously the modalities of international cooperation.”
He concluded his speech in English, citing several regions severely impacted by hunger, including Gaza.
