Princess Gillian Edenojie Isidahomen, a Nigerian gospel artist, has urged fellow gospel musicians to strengthen their connection with God in order to receive divine guidance.
She emphasized that achieving success as a gospel singer requires a deep spiritual commitment, as it is through this devotion that artists can create music capable of reaching hearts and winning souls.
Speaking in a recent interview, Isidahomen, who is widely known as Princess Gillian Gospel, shared her perspective on the importance of spiritual grounding. She explained that a gospel singer cannot expect to be inspired to write meaningful songs unless they are firmly rooted in their faith. According to her, only through closeness to God can artists be spiritually guided in their songwriting process.
The US-based gospel singer also reflected on her personal journey into music. “My inspiration to become a music artist started from my early childhood while singing in church. I was motivated by the ability of music to express emotions and unite people. My journey began with learning to play various instruments and experimenting with different genres, which helped me find my own voice in the vast world of music.”
Isidahomen’s professional music career took off in 2024, though she has been actively involved in music since 1993 as a choir member. “I have released 10 singles since I started professionally as an artist in 2024,” she added.
On the subject of the various styles of gospel music, the singer noted that while some musicians start with a clear vision and purpose for their careers, others may find their direction over time, adapting their style and goals as their careers evolve. For Isidahomen, defining her musical style is not an easy task. She describes her sound as a fusion of various genres, with a soulful twist.
As for the artists who have influenced her, Isidahomen cites Sony Okosun, a versatile musician known for his gospel and eclectic music, as well as Yolanda Adams and Pastor Shirley Caesar, who have left a lasting impression on her artistic development.
