Nigerian gospel artist and banking professional, Toyin Alo, has shared her perspective on the role of gospel music, urging that it be viewed as more than a form of entertainment.
She noted that it should serve as a spiritual ministry aimed at guiding people toward faith in God.
According to Alo, her motivation for creating music stems from a sense of purpose and a desire to uplift, rather than a pursuit of recognition or personal gain.
“Gospel music is not just for entertainment; it is a tool to draw souls to Christ,” she said in a recent interview.
Balancing multiple responsibilities, Alo manages her role in the banking sector alongside her commitments as a wife, mother, and gospel singer.
She described her journey as one built on trust in God’s guidance.
“God is my Alpha and Omega. He has been good to me, and no weapon formed against me shall prosper. All my life has been about Christ,” she said.
Alo also spoke about her values, stating that while she acknowledges the importance of cultural identity, her faith comes first.
“According to the Bible, a believer must never subscribe to Mammon. My faith in Him stands tall,” she said.
Describing herself as “a Christian, a lover of Christ, a gospel singer, a dutiful wife, a mother, and a proud girl-child with zero tolerance for barbaric practices,” she reaffirmed that her goal is to impact lives spiritually.
“My mission is to win souls for Him,” she said.
Her music career began with the album Esteban Praise and she has since released other notable works including Alagbara, Halleluyah, Oba ni Jesu featuring Kenny Kore, and most recently, Praise Him.
Her new single Ogo Ogo is currently receiving positive feedback as she works on an upcoming album focused on uplifting messages and gospel themes.
